नए आईटी नियमों का पालन ना करने के कारण ट्विटर ने भारत में एक मध्यस्थ मंच के रूप में अपनी स्थिति खो दी है। इसका मतलब है कि ट्विटर और उसके शीर्ष अधिकारीयों को अब ट्विटर पर ट्वीट्स और इसके द्वारा होस्ट किए गए डेटा के लिए जिम्मेदार ठहराया जाएगा।
एएनआई ने एक सरकारी सूत्रों के हवाले से कहा, “ट्विटर अब भारत में एक मध्यस्थ मंच नहीं है क्योंकि यह नए आईटी नियमों का पालन नहीं करता है।” सूत्रों ने आगे कहा कि मुख्यधारा के बीच ट्विटर एकमात्र सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म है जिसने नए कानूनों का पालन नहीं किया है।
Twitter has lost its status as intermediary platform in India due to non-compliance with new IT rules. This means instead of being considered just a platform hosting content from various users, Twitter will be directly editorially responsible for posts published on its platform.

एएनआई ने एक सरकारी सूत्रों के हवाले से यह भी कहा की, “इस विकास का निहितार्थ यह है कि यदि कथित गैरकानूनी सामग्री के लिए ट्विटर के खिलाफ कोई आरोप है तो इसे एक प्रकाशक के रूप में माना जाएगा – मध्यस्थ नहीं – और आईटी अधिनियम सहित देश के कानून के तहत दंड के लिए उत्तरदायी होगा। ”
The implication of this development is that if there is any charge against Twitter for alleged unlawful content it would be treated as a publisher – not an intermediary – and be liable for punishment under any law, including IT Act, as also the penal laws of the country.
