Singapore government refutes Delhi CM Kejriwal’s claims of new ‘extremely dangerous’ COVID version “Singapore variant” in the country.

Singapore Govt strongly objected to Delhi CM's tweet on "Singapore variant"

Singapore Govt called in our High Commissioner today to convey strong objection to Delhi CM’s tweet on “Singapore variant”.

“High Commissioner clarified that Delhi CM had no competence to pronounce on Covid variants or civil aviation policy.”

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday urged the central government to cancel air services with Singapore immediately, warning of a new variant of Covid-19, which he said can come to India as a third wave of Covid cases and be extremely dangerous for children.

In response to CM Kejriwal’s tweet, Singapore diplomat tweeted this and clarified the fact.

In response to CM Kejriwal’s tweet, Union minister for civil aviation Hardeep Singh said that international flights have been closed since March 2020 and with Singapore, there is no air bubble as well. An air bubble is a bilateral agreement between two countries with rules in place allowing carriers of the two countries to operate international flights.

Singapore’s foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan said, in tweet “Politicians should stick to facts! There is no “Singapore variant”

“CM Kejriwal ignored the fact that coronavirus strain B.1.617 which has now been found in Singapore has been active in India since March 2021 especially in Maharashtra. One fails to understand why Arvind Kejriwal is now trying to create panic for this strain of Covid,” Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said in a statement.

The B.1.617.2 variant is the same mutation that dominated India’s second surge.

Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar said in a statement, “As is his habit, the CM was trying to shirk his own responsibility on how to counter a new Singapore variant of the Covid virus, which will hit children hard, by taking expert opinion immediately, to take precautionary measures, he was tweeting to the Centre to stop all international flights from Singapore, which is an easy way out for him, for not doing any work.”
